Inspiration
My team and I drew inspiration from the city of Detroit and conducted research including interviewing residents of the city.

Elena is a dedicated veterinarian based in Detroit with a strong connection to both her profession and the outdoors. Growing up in Maine, she developed a love for hiking and spending time in nature, often exploring local trails. She’s deeply committed to her work, spending long hours caring for animals, and is known for her compassion. Elena leads a healthy lifestyle, prioritizing a balanced diet and an active routine. Her strong ties to her community and her passion for both her career and nature shape her vibrant, fulfilling life.

TECH PACK
Elena is an avid hiker who values adaptable gear. She understands the importance of layering, needing the flexibility to easily add or remove clothing as her body temperature fluctuates throughout the journey. I designed convertible pants and a range of upper layers for maximum comfort. Inspired by the contrast between the geometric shapes of the city and the organic forms of nature, Elena seeks designs that reflect both her urban life and her love for the outdoors.

Trail Pants
.png)
The Trail Pants are designed for breathability and mobility in a variety of environments. With zip-off legs, they easily convert into shorts, offering versatility for changing conditions. The upper side zippers improve airflow and flexibility, while the bottom zippers make it easier to put on boots. When zipped down, the bottom zippers also create a seal around the ankle to protect against bug bites, adding practicality to the design.
Trek Shirt
.png)
The Trek Shirt functions as the breathable base layer of the outfit, providing ventilation where it's needed most. Mesh panels along the spine and sides enhance airflow, keeping the wearer comfortable during intense outdoor activities. Its lightweight fabric ensures maximum breathability, allowing for long-lasting comfort even in warmer weather. This layer serves as a foundational piece for any hiking adventure.
Venture Puffer

The Venture Puffer is a snug-fitting, half-zip mid-layer designed to trap warm air close to the body. The jacket's pattern, inspired by Detroit's fashion, adds a stylish urban touch while maintaining practicality. Its compact design makes it easy to layer under outerwear, while the insulating materials keep warmth in, ensuring comfort during colder temperatures. This piece blends performance with style for all-weather hiking.
Storm Jacket
.png)
The Storm Jacket is a water-repellent windbreaker with an asymmetric zipper and a distinctive pattern inspired by the layout of Detroit’s buildings. Its design combines functionality with urban pride, reflecting the city's architectural lines. This jacket provides protection from the elements while allowing the wearer to showcase their Detroit roots, even on the trail. It’s perfect for unpredictable weather, keeping you dry and stylish no matter the conditions.
RESULT
The renders showcase the potential of the concept, while the prototype of the pants demonstrates how sustainable materials can be both functional and stylish. This project is a step toward a more circular system, where waste is reimagined as a resource for a greener, more livable city.
